Come learn old-time fiddling with me at Steve Kaufman’s Acoustic Kamp, June 12-18

I am mighty pleased to announce that I will be on staff as instructor of Old-Time Fiddle at Steve Kaufman’s Acoustic Kamp, June 12-18, 2016 for Old-Time and Traditional Week. It will be one dandy week of learning, and I’ll be there with with top-notch players/instructors in Old Time Banjo, Old Time Mandolin, Mountain Dulcimer, Flatpicking, Fingerpicking, Traditional and Old Time Rhythm Guitar, Old Time Fiddle, Old Time Mandolin, Hammered Dulcimer, and Old Time Singing and Harmony.

Along with two other fantastic fiddle instructors, April Verch and Jim Wood, I will be teaching three levels (beginning, intermediate, and advanced). And I’m also tickled that my Bow Bender bandmates Carl Jones and Erynn Marshall will be there as well. Besides great classes, the week will include lots of jamming, concerts, dancing, singing, good food, and good company, so I hope you’ll join me!

Featured in Fiddler Magazine!

When Bob Buckingham interviewed me for a piece in the Summer 2015 issue of Fiddler Magazine, I had no idea that it would end up being the cover story. My wife Rochelle Moser’s amazing photo portraiture skills certainly had to help!

If you click on the picture above, it will link to an excerpt of the interview on the Fiddler Magazine site.

Over the years Fiddler has interviewed a whole lot of great musicians – including some of my own fiddle heroes – and I’m honored and humbled to have been featured in this issue. If you are a fiddler or just love fiddle music, pick up a copy – there are many good articles and columns, and you’ll want to read it cover to cover!

My new album is here!

The Shortest Day
After several years of thinking about it, composing new tunes, practicing, planning, raising money, recording, mixing, writing, and thinking about design, the first boxes of my new album The Shortest Day arrived on my doorstep late last Friday afternoon – yee haw!!

So now the next big phase of work begins: sending out the CDs in the rewards packages to my many generous Kickstarter backers, without whom I could not have made this album.

Remember the official release date of June 6 – that’s Saturday, and there will be a joint CD release party at the Mount Airy fiddlers convention in Surry County, NC for The Shortest Day and for my pals Erynn Marshall’s and Carl Jones’ wonderful new CD Sweet Memories…Never Leave. It’ll start at 2:00 PM in the festival campground.

Online pre-orders of The Shortest Day CDs and sales of downloads are now available via the Record Store here on this website, and on my BandCamp page I will start shipping out CD orders after the June 6 release.

I hope to see some of you at our Mount Airy album release party!

Getting closer to The Shortest Day release date

Mounting a successful Kickstarter campaign, recording an album in one three-day weekend at Joe Dejarnette’s studio in Floyd, VA, mixing, getting the mixes off to Airshow Studio to be mastered by David Glasser, working up the graphic design with David Lynch of Lynch Graphics in Asheville, writing liner notes, following up with Kickstarter backers…it’s enough to keep a fellow pretty busy!

Ah, but it is so worth the effort. I could not be happier with the music on this album, nor more excited about sharing it with the world. And I am happy to say that as of today The Shortest Day is on track for its intended release date of June 5.

More news to come…
